Avocado Chocolate Mousse
I don’t recall the first time I tried avocado, but I know I was in my 20s (I know, I know…what was I thinking?).
I mean, I know what I was thinking: I thought I didn’t like avocados. I never tried guacamole, I picked out the sliced avocados from California rolls, and frankly, that’s all I knew. But one day, I had guac and my world opened up. Cue the choir.
However, avocados are so much more than savory guacamole and toast. My mom grew up eating avocado with crushed ice and sugar, and to this day, it’s one of her favorite summer desserts. When used in sweet dishes, it lends a creamy texture that is smooth and decadent. Whether you add it to your morning smoothies or simply top it with coconut condensed milk, avocados can be used in literally every meal of the day.
I love this recipe from Chocolate Covered Katie because it is so rich and is truly a treat that you can enjoy after a beautiful dinner. Guests are always so impressed with this mousse and are also surprised that it is made with avocados.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients
Ingredients
- flesh of 2 ripe avocados 240g
- ¼ cup regular cocoa powder
- ¾ cup dutch cocoa or melted chocolate chips
- 3-4 tbsp milk of choice
- ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp salt
- sweetener of choice to taste I like 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
Instructions
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor until completely smooth. I used 3 tbsp almond milk, but if you’re not using a liquid sweetener then you might want to add a little extra for a smoother consistency. If you make it, don’t forget to rate the recipe or leave a review below!
Notes
- If you use melted chocolate chips in this recipe, the mousse will be richer. Using Dutch cocoa will create a mousse that is lower in fat and sugar.
- You can top this mousse with sliced strawberries or coconut whipped cream.
- To change up the flavor, you can also add ½ c of peanut butter to the mixture before adding sweetener.
